A
Walk in the Sierra Nevada, Spain
This walk
took in Mulhacen, Alcazaba and the other peaks that link Las Estrellas
on the North to Capileira on the South of the Sierras. The links below are to
my
diary of the sections of this 'walk in the high sierras'.

Navigation: Sierra Nevada map 1:40.000, Geógraf
Salvador Llobert, obtainable in Granada and also in London
from Stanfords (see link on this web-site) - aided and
assisted by a Garmin
etrex
GPS.
In 2003, I
did a solo walk from the Estación de San Juan (el valle de las
Estrellas) across the main ridge of the Sierra Nevada to the village
of Capiliera in the Alpujarra. Why? well, I
suppose it was a last gesture of defiance to getting to 55 years. |

On top of that,
the Sierras are, for me, a unique place that allows me to dump
all of the every-day concerns and to focus on the 'here an now'.
It is a tough walk in the Summer and offers lots of
opportunities for the unwary to fall off things, get lost and
run out of water. (I tried to do these one at a time and
not all together). |
